Cancer Bats - Gig Review

Cancer Bats @ The Underworld, Camden. Vans sponsored show...

Last night I swung by The Underworld to catch the ever awesome Cancer Bats destroy Camden. The last date on their Vans sponsored tour, the venue was rammed to the rafters and hot as hell- the perfect vibe for a C Bats show. We miss thrash skate punks SSS due to early doors, but are there in time to catch Leeds wreckers boys The Plight. Anyone who knows this band, knows they love to party and their music reflects this- with the rock and roll edge of Guns'n'Roses or Motley Crue, but with the metallic groove of Clutch or Mastodon. They go down a storm. After a distinctly average set by Canadians This Is A Standoff, Cancer Bats ripped through an incredible set chock full of stomping tracks. A cover of Murder City Devils is a highlight alongside the always crushing Hail Destroyer. Few frontmen are as engaging or instantly likeable as singer Liam Cormier. The fact that almost every song is dedicated to everyone in the venue perfectly examples how in love with their fans the band are. Last years Hail Destroyer was one of my favourite albums of 2008, so fingers crossed the next album will see the band hitting even bigger stages. Here's hoping!
